Decorating with Throw Pillows

Who doesn’t love a throw pillow or twenty (20)? I'm a real sucker for them. It's a bit of an obsession in truth. Well that and the chairs I place them on. Pillows are like icing on the cake in your decorating and they bring the whole look and feel of a space together.

Throw pillows are an easy way to change the look and feel of your space without a huge price tag. Unless of course like me, you have to have them all(!)

Throw pillows are seasonal. As Spring is right around the corner I like to change up my pillows to a more lightweight choice in bright sunny colors like these fabulous choices.

In the winter months I'm more inclined to look for a darker color in a heavier fabric, like a velvet or fuzzy fabric choice.

Throw pillows can be themed too. There are options for every occasion such as Easter or Thanksgiving and design style such as  Coastal with their motifs and textures.
How many of you have Holiday pillows you decorate with? So much fun and, if you have Holiday guests, so welcoming too.

There are many shapes and sizes of throw pillow too. Makes you wonder "which pillow should I use where?", right?

I use this rule of thumb on a Queen-size bed for example:
2 Sleeping Pillows
2 Euro size pillows (26" x 26")
2 Large Square pillows (22 x 22)
1 Smaller Square (18 x 18) or Lumbar pillow (16 x 22)
1 fancy beaded or fluffy pillow
(And yes, my husband moans every night when he has to remove all of them before he can get in! )

On a couch I like to use at least 5 pillows. Of course the size of the couch will determine the amount of pillows to use yet a general rule is to use an odd numbers. I like to use a combination of solid and pattern pillows in a color pallet that speak to each other. The combo I usually stick with is:
2 Solid Color
2 Patterned
1 lumbar
The options are really endless with this. You can play forever using this format.

I think the take away here is there is a throw pillow for every decorating taste and style, Holiday and themed occasion. They come in every shape, size and texture and you should use them to refresh, liven up and inspire your space.

Tell me in the comments how often you change out your throw pillows? And does your significant other moan about the amount of pillows you own ;-)
Cheers!
Sarah
